November 23, 2011: Anne McCaffrey, 1926-2011

Renowned fantasy author Anne McCaffrey has died. Best known for her Dragonriders series set on the planet Pern, she wrote many other novels in a career that spanned half a century. McCaffrey also collaborated extensively with several other authors, including her son Todd, particularly later in her life.

She was named a Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America in 2005 and was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2006. Much more about her life and works can be found in the Science Fiction Encyclopedia.
